1:20.3
Scale / Garden Railroad Structures & accessories

Commonly referred to as G Scale or Large
Scale, the buildings and accessories displayed on this site are all
specifically, 1:20.3 scale intended for Narrow Gauge, Garden Railroad modeling,
however they will also work quite well with 1:22.5 scale.
The products are hand crafted using the finest available wood, hardware, and
weather proof glues, and finishes. All the buildings are uniquely designed and
built to offer the garden railroader a one of a kind, scale structure that will
not be duplicated.
By 1929 there were still over 3,000 miles of narrow gauge
rails serving mostly rural America. Hobo Rails structures are representative of
an era when life in the logging camps, saw-mill, and mining towns was simple and
rugged. This lifestyle was reflected in the type and style of structures that
the loggers, mill-hands, and miners built. The board and batten sided mine and mill
town shacks, the old barn, gray from the elements and leaning slightly from
decades of wind and weather, and the old board outhouse, partially hidden from
view by a board fence or a grove of Willow trees, these are all elements of a
rural narrow gauge railroad setting in early Twentieth Century America. The buildings and accessories, when incorporated into a garden railroad setting, help capture this era,
during the early years of the twentieth century, when the Model T and Model A
automobile were king of the road and the steam engine was king of the rails.
The art work on this site is meant to provide the viewer with
a nostalgic glimpse of the past, illustrating the "way it was" and the bond
that existed between the, railroads, and the communities that
they served. This was a time when the transportation giants of our country
were powered by steam and the focus was on the harbor, riverboat landing,
and the train station to gauge the growth and success of the cities, towns,
and rural areas of America.
